Joakim Frøystein uses his guitar, voice and laptop/electronics in a wide range of musical settings, often stretching the limits of genres. Besides being a teacher, a performing artist and an ”in demand” musician he has composed and performed music for poetry, theatre, performance-art, film, modern dance, excibitions and art-installations.
Frøystein is part of the recording-collective ILK (www.ilkmusic.com) and performs with his solo-project Sugarghost, the electronica-trio Jogujo Circuit, Sidiki Camara (Mali), Aida Nadeem (Iraq/DK) a.o and has toured extensively in USA and Europe.
He has been involved in a number of recordings and was nominated for 2 Danish Music Awards – Jazz 2006, in the categories ”New Name of the Year” and ”Best Crossover-Jazz Release”. Has collaborated with a.o. New Jungle Orchestra (DK), I Heart Lung (USA), Ursula Andkjær Olsen
(DK) August Engkilde, Kohinoor Norberg (NO).
Froystein has participated in and carried through projects supported by Danish and Norwegian Cultural funds. In 2009 he received the prestigious ”State Artist Scholarship” in Norway.
